“Humlan” och ”Lilla Humlan”, känd som ”The Bumble Bee” och ”The Little Bumble Bee” på engelska, designades för Bohus Stickning av Anna-Lisa Mannheimer Lunn 1948-53.
The knitting kit for Humlan was recreated in 2017 from original charts and garments held in museum collections . The design is available as knitting kit for a pullover with a round yoke in the Lilla Humlan design and in the Humlan design as a hat.
The garment is knitted on light natural beige base in an angora yarn spun from 50% hand-cut angora wool from our own angora rabbits and 50% New Zealand merino wool. The yarn has not been dyed, but comes from our natural brown, wild brown and especially yellow angora rabbit wool. The pattern yarns are hand-dyed by Pernille Silfverberg to match the original yarns. The yarn is spun in Denmark at Henrichsens Uldspinderi.
The knitting kit contains enough yarn to complete a pullover or cardigan in the largest size XL, a finished garment measurement of 117 cm (46 inches) around the chest. The kit includes pattern instructions to create an authentic reproduction of the original Bohus Stickning design in sizes from 92cm - 117cm. These instructions include the option of either an elastic or folded neckband, as original examples exist in both styles. The kit also includes a printed pattern card with samples of the 6 included yarns to use as a reference.
The garment is worked from the bottom up with a slightly shorter yoke according to "New circular knitting" in Bohus Angora Merino yarn. The patterned yoke for the design is worked with up to three pattern yarns in one round at a gauge of 33 stitches/10cm. Only knit and purl stitches are used and the majority of the design is worked with only 1 or two colours in each row. The pullover is knit in pieces from the bottom up with raglan decreases from the armhole. The raglan seams are sewn and the pieces are joined to complete the yoke pattern in the round. This seamed construction matches the original constructions for the design. Knitting needles are not included in the kit, however typically a needle size of 2mm-2.5mm will be required to achieve the correct gauge.

The hat features a garter stitch band which may be folded in, which also means that the hat is adjustable in size. The tam features a ribbed band, followed by pattern knitting. Knitting needles are not included in the kit, but typically 2.0mm-2.5mm needles are needed to achieve the correct gauge.
