"Grå Dimman Rosa", known in English as "The Grey Mist Rose", was originally designed for Bohus Stickning by Kerstin Olsson along with a series of similar designs created between 1963 and 1965.
The knitting kit for Grå Dimman Rosa was originally recreated in 2005. It was later revised in 2016 using original charts and garments held in museum collections, in consultation with Kerstin Olsson. Grå Dimman Rosa is available as knitting kit for a pullover/cardigan with a round yoke and hat. Note that the the yoke pattern is different to Grå Dimman and is not a pink colorway of Grå Dimman. With gray tones that lean towards blue and transition into cool light pink, the design is reminiscent of a frosty and foggy winter morning.
The garment is knitted on a light pink (no 278) angora/merino base yarn spun from 50% hand-clipped angora wool from our own angora rabbits and 50% New Zealand merino wool. The yarn is spun in Denmark at Heinrichsens Uldspinderi and is dyed to match the original yarns. The main colours are dyed at the spinning mill to ensure an even saturation across the whole garment. The pattern colours are hand dyed by Pernille Silfverberg.
The knitting kit contains enough yarn to knit a pullover or cardigan in the largest size XL, which corresponds to the garment's measurement of 117 cm around the chest, and instructions to knit a recreation of the original Bohus Stickning design in sizes from 92 cm for 117 cm. Instructions are for available for both the elastic neckline and the folded neckline. The kit also includes a printed pattern chart with yarn samples for and 7 pattern yarns to use as reference.
The garment is worked from the top down in AngoraGarnets angora/merino yarn. The patterned yoke is worked with two pattern yarns at the same time on one round except for one round of three, with a knitting tension of 33 stitches/10 cm. Only knit and purl stitches are used. The cardigan is worked back and forth while the front edge for buttons are worked side by side. The jumper is worked in the round on circular needles, then the front and back pieces are worked in stockinette stitch back and forth and seamed to mimic its original construction. Knitting needles are not included in the knitting kit, but typically 2.0 mm-2.5 mm needles are needed to achieve the correct knitting tension.
Pattern yarns for Grå Dimman Rosa's designs are hand-dyed by Pernille to ensure they fully replicate its original design.
The buttons on the original garment were mother-of-pearl buttons 12 mm in diameter with two holes and a small notch between them. Buttons are not included in the knitting kit.
