Bohus Stickning Yxorna

Price range: SEK 2,550 to SEK 2,845

The axes, known in English as "The Axes", were originally designed for Bohus Stickning by Emma Jacobsson in the mid-1940s.

The knitting kit the Yxorna pullover patterned front developed in 2000 from original charts and garments held in museum collections.

The jumper has a straighter cut and is usually referred to as a men's model. It is knitted from the bottom up with sewn-in sleeves, without any armhole shaping. The Yxor can be considered easier to knit than many recreated models in Bohus Stickning, as the jumper's fully patterned front is knitted in stockinette stitch using only two yarns at a time.

The knitting kit available for Yxorna as pullover three color combinations: with a white/black, gray-brown/natural gray, or black/brown patterned front, i.e., on a black, natural gray, or brown base.

This design is knitted in our lambswool yarn spun from New Zealand merino lambswool. Some of the yarns are spun with a small amount of wool from Gotland sheep for a mottled effect.

pullover is knitted straight down from the top without armhole shaping and has sewn-in sleeves. This gives the jumper a straighter fit. The front and back pieces are knitted separately. The front of the jumper is fully patterned and knitted in stockinette stitch using two strands of yarn at the same time. The back and sleeves are knitted in stockinette stitch with a ribbed lower edge. The neckline is knitted in rib and folded in so that it is double.

Knitting needles are not included in the knitting kit, but typically needles 2.0 mm – 2.5 mm are needed to achieve the correct knitting tension.

Garner to the Axes

The axes are knitted in our two-ply lambswool yarn, which consists of New Zealand merino wool. Some of the yarns are spun with a small amount of wool from Gotland sheep for a mottled effect. The wool comes from farms that do not use mulesing and is carefully selected for its quality by Henrichsens Uldspinderi, which spins the wool in Skive, Denmark. Based on original patterns and models held in museum collections , we held in museum collections developed yarns that mimic the yarns originally knitted for Bohus Stickning.
