Bohus Stickning The Blue Egg

"The Blue Egg was originally designed for Bohus Stickning by Kerstin Olsson in 1963. The egg was the first of a series of similar designs created between 1963 and 1967.

When she created the original Ägget, the designer was inspired by a papier-mâché egg that Emma Jacobsson received as a gift from students at the Konstfack School in Stockholm as a thank you for visiting Bohus Stickning at Guldheden in Gothenburg. The pattern for Ägget was originally executed in yellow-brown tones with hints of pink. Many of Kerstin Olsson's early designs were created in only one colour scheme. However, this design was created in a range of colour combinations, with a dizzying array of results. These include Ägget Grått, Myrten Grön and Nya Azalean, and this beautiful Ägget Blått.

The knitting kit for Ägget Blått was developed in 2018 from original charts and garments held in museum collections, in consultation with Kerstin Olsson. Ägget Blått is only available as a pullover/cardigan kit.

The garment is knitted on either black or dark blue base in an angora yarn spun from 50% hand-cut angora wool from our own angora rabbits and 50% New Zealand merino wool. The pattern yarns are hand-dyed by Pernille Silfverberg to mimic the original for Ägget Blått. The yarns are spun in Denmark at Henrichsens Uldspinderi.
