The stirrup, known in English as "The Stirrup", was originally designed for Bohus Stickning by Anna-Lisa Mannheimer Lunn in the mid-1940s. The Stirrup pattern is found in the Blue Stripe and is included in the same collection as the Blue Stripe along with the Stirrup with a yellow stripe.
hat and mittens in with patterns in red/grey were recreated in the 1990s by Kerstin Olsson and Emma Jacobsson's daughter, Ingrid Mesterton. The knitting kit for this design as pullover and cardigan was produced in 2021 by Pernille Silfverberg, when the design was also recreated in orange/green. The stirrup has been developed from original pattern drawings and cut-up models from museum collections. The knitting kit there is for pullover or cardigan with patterned front, hat, mittens, and for mittens and socks .
This design is knitted on natural gray mottled base in our wool yarn spun from New Zealand merino lambswool. Some of the yarns also contain a small amount of wool from Gotland fur sheep from England, which gives a mottled look. Sleeves, waistband and back could be knitted in light natural beige wool yarn to accent for the natural gray of the front base.
The yarns are spun in Denmark at Heinrichsens Uldspinderi and are dyed to match the original yarns. The natural grey base colour is coloured naturally without dye by the inclusion of British Gotland fur sheep wool. Otherwise, base colours are dyed at the spinning mill to ensure even saturation of colour across the garment. The pattern colours are hand dyed by Pernille Silfverberg.
